If I didn't know better, I would have thought that I lived in Kansas. We had six maybe 7 tornados within a 10-15 mile radius of our town. One was about 3/4 of a mile wide that hit Windsor, which is ten minutes northwest of where I live. It was right in the path of where I used to work as a paralegal and where my friend Vanesa still works. Very scary stuff! Can you imagine me trying to herd my animals in to the basement?? Not a pretty sight. There was hail the size of golfballs in some areas and I also heard there were baseball size ones in Windsor.
Here is a video to give you an idea of what it looked like today.
As far as I know, there were tornados that hit in Gilcrest, Platteville, Longmont, and West Greeley, along with Windsor. However, it very well could have been the 3/4 wide tornado that each town was reporting. According to the news stations, that specific tornado was on the ground for about 35 miles, starting in between Gilcrest/Platteville, skirting past Greeley, going north and hitting Windsor, and then continuing on to Ft. Collins and Southern Wyoming. Greeley, is right smack next to West Evans, where I live. I saw the big scary clouds making their way northwest, and having lived in the northeastern part of Colorado for all my life, I knew exactly what was going on before I heard it on the weather station. Michael's grandparents live in Gilcrest, but we were not able to reach them on the phone all day, due to the power lines being down. My cell was doing some crazy stuff, not usual to the weird stuff it does already since I have dropped it a million times. I planned on going to Ft. Collins in the morning to get my animals their food, but thankfully, Pam had an online emergency and needed some help. When we finally had it completed, I decided it was too late to go, so I started doing laundry instead. The tornado hit around 11:30, this means had I gone, I would have been on the highway at the time the tornado came through. So Pamster! It was a good thing you had a bout of insanity this morning from lack of sleep. So far, there was one fatality, and many injured, but not critically. The devastation in Windsor is phenomenal. Usually, we have tornados around 3 p.m. and towards the evening. This is the first time I have ever heard of one hitting us in the morning and coming from the east. Living as near to the mountains as we do, our storms usually have a west to east approach, so whenever something comes in from the east we know we are in deep crap!
Vanesa and her daughter are okay, although her daughter's daycare was completely devastated and her car sustained major damage. Thankfully, Em stayed home ill today with her Grandma. Caela's dipstick school never even had them tornado ready. They continued classes like it was just another day, although they wouldn't let them go outside for lunch. Idiots!! We were finally able to reach Michael's Grandparents around 7 p.m. They are both fine, the tornado missed them so there was no damage done to their farm or livestock.
This is one reason why I dislike living in this part of Colorado. The funky weather we get can be so unpredictable and I'm too cute to be in a tornado. All joking aside, I am so glad that friends and family were okay and my heart goes out to the one man who did lose his life today. I plan on being a scared little bitch the next couple of days though.

Lief Zusje,
remember me telling you I wanted to experience just a small little twister when I was with you last summer. Well I am now glad we didn't experience one. Wowser, the size of those iceballs (hail??). Glad that you, Caela, Michael, his grandparents and your friends are ok.
Especially thank you Pam for keeping Anita at home, otherwise things had really gone bad.
Hugs,
your Dutch Sis and fes,
Petra
OH Anita...how scary...happy to hear you are all alright...and thankful you weren't out there on the road but helping Pam out instead!!!
We've been lucky in our area...we get the warnings once awhile but only one time it got pretty bad....okay twice...the seconde time I was in the doctors office after I had sophia for a follow up...nothing like being half naked on the table and told get up/get dress...tornado sirens going off!!!! Scary shit!!!
See, all things happen for a reason. I am so Thankful that you are okay and that you were being pre-occupied. I had no idea the weather was so bad in your area, but that maybe cause I haven't turned the TV on in two days and I haven't been home much.
I'll keep all of you in my prayers and will watch the news more often, even tho I hate the news.
BIG HUGS!!
